Maaria started her career as a writer and producer for networks such as Discovery Channel, National Geographic and Fox. Since then, her short films 'Aabida,' and 'Chudala' have been screened at film festivals such as Raindance, Izmir Kisa, BFI Flare, Kazan, Busan Int Short Film Festival, and acquired by Amazon Prime (US) ShortsTV International, and Tata Sky India. Her work deals with loss, the passage of time, and the sexual and spiritual liberation of women in different environments and is heavily inspired by Indian mythology and Sufism.

She has also been a delegate and jury member for Asia Peace Film Festival in Pakistan, supported by the UN, and a jury member for Parvaz International Film Festival in Tehran (2021), which focused on disabilities. She won the Mutti award, in 2019 with a grant by Cineteca di Bologna to make her next short ‘Ancora non lo so.’ Additionally, she won the grant by Sharjah Film Platform, 2021 to film, ‘Unveiling Selma.’
